Innovative Color Woodcut Printmaking From Multiple Blocks
Saturday, November 8 & Sunday, November 9, 9:30am-5:30pm each
day (bring bag lunch)
Tuition and materials: $180 ($165 members/teachers)
Instructor: Endi Poskovic
Beginner through more advanced levels can be accommodated
In this 2-day class we will learn a range of relief printmaking techniques,
strategies, and concepts using two or more blocks for creation of multiple
color woodcut prints. From Japanese ukiyuo-e style printing to more expressive
approach of the artists of Die Brucke and Taller de Grafica, this workshop
will address the matters of learning the craft, making art, and developing
innovative approaches towards creating one's own color woodcuts without
a printing press or expensive printmaking equipment. The first day will
introduce various aspects of carving the blocks and how to design images
for relief carving utilizing free-hand drawing methods, a photocopier,
and the computer as a drawing tool.
The second day session will explore printing techniques from plywood
using oil-based inks and individual approaches towards manipulations of
inks, papers, and types of wood used in printing. At the end of this two-day
workshop, you will have completed a set of blocks and a variable edition
of prints.
