PORTRAIT PAINTING with BART LINDSTROM
*Ages 18 and up* CLOSED - Waiting List Available.
Thursday, May 29, Friday, May 30, Saturday, May 31, 10am-5pm

This workshop will be a 3-day intensive workshop focusing on painting portraits with full-color alla prima methods. Bart Lindstrom will demonstrate his approach to using color with his unique double-circle color wheel palette. Workshop attendees will first be introduced to the palette system and helped to understand why it is based directly on complimentary color theory. Then Lindstrom demonstrates how he uses the palette to achieve the color effects needed to paint lifelike portraits and still life. Attendees will be given a chance to work with the palette and color system from live models with direct assistance and guidance. The goal of this workshop is to help demystify color, and turn complimentary color theory into a useful, dependable, and exciting painting tool.
Instructor: Bart Lindstrom
Tuition & Model Fees: $450 ($405 members/teachers)
Supply list will be provided upon registration.

Waterless LithographyWATERLESS LITHOGRAPHY
Saturdays, June 14, 21, 28, 10am-4pm

Whether you love to paint or draw, your unique style can be translated into waterless lithography.* The focus will be on black and white printing using aluminum plates. Safe methods of processing the plates and safe clean up of oil-based inks will be included. Finished original prints can stand on their own, be incorporated in mixed media work, or can be used as note cards.
Instructor: Sue Soper
Tuition & Materials: $145 ($130 members/teachers)
Some materials provided; supply list will be provided upon registration.

WHAT IS WATERLESS LITHOGRAPHY?
Traditional lithography is based on the principle that grease and water do not mix. The water repels the greasy ink in the non-image areas which are protected with gum arabic. Oil-based ink is attracted to the greasy image. In WATERLESS LITHOGRAPHY, silicone is used as the protector of the non-image areas and the ink is only attracted to the image areas.

Metal ClayMETAL CLAY *New Class!*
Saturday, June 21, 10am-5pm

Metal clay is a putty-like mix of silver powder, water, and binder that makes it possible for almost anyone to make real silver jewelry in a matter of hours. Metal clay can be molded, textured, and layered with simple tools to make pendants, earrings, small sculpture – just about anything! The work is dried and fired where the water and binder are driven off to leave a unique object that is 100% pure silver. In this beginning class, students will learn the basics of metal clay, including how to set up a work area, understanding the basic tools and what they do, rolling, creating textures, firing, and finishing techniques. Each student will complete up to two finished projects with the tools and supplies provided. Students will take home some tools as well.
Instructor: Lauren Van Hemert
Tuition, Tools & Materials: $155 ($145 members)

STAINED GLASS FOR BEGINNERS *New Class!*
Tuesdays, July 8, 15, 22 & 29, 7-9:30pm

In this class you will learn the basics of glasswork while making a 14” x 14” panel in the copper foil method. Louis Tiffany devised this method at the turn of the Century. It involves wrapping individual pieces of glass with copper foil tape so that they can be soldered together. Some materials will be provided to kick off the class but students will be responsible for supplying their own materials to complete their project. All necessary tools and materials can be found at the Stained Glass Center of Raleigh, 876-9073.
Instructor: Dan Hohl
Tuition & Materials: $145 ($130 members/teachers)
Some supplies will be provided; supply list will be provided upon registration.

DRAWING IS EASY! SEEING IS TOUGH! *New Class!*
Saturday, July 19 & Sunday, July 20, 10am-5pm

Drawing is the most basic of artistic instincts, but seeing and translating to paper what you have seen is the tough part. Let Luana demonstrate a practical method to draw anything with a simple four part plan: see it, size it, shape it, sketch it. This class is for novices, for people who used to love to draw but are a bit rusty, and for anyone who has always wished they could draw.
Instructor: Luana Luconi Winner
Tuition & Materials: $185 ($170 members/teachers)

LIFE CASTING *New Class!*
Saturday, July 26 & Sunday, July 27, 10am-5pm

In this weekend workshop life-casting techniques will be presented as a point of departure for creating contemporary art. Participants will have the opportunity to try out their own ideas, replicating body gesture and facial expression, capturing minute details with alginate, a non-hazardous mold material. The process of casting a hand, a face, and larger sections of the body will be demonstrated. Participants will take on the roles of creative director, technician, and model to fully understand the possibilities of this unique material. Plaster will be cast into molds producing exact replicas.
Instructor: Eileen Doktorski, 2008 Summer Artist-in-Residence

ADVANCED DRAWING
*Ages 17 and up*
Saturday, August 2 & Sunday, August 3, 10am-5pm

This class will be working with the nude model to advance your skills in rendering human anatomy. Concentration on shoulders, elbows, and hands the first morning will lead into long pose drawings to balance out the day. Exercises on legs, knees, and feet will begin the second day, leading into additional long poses to finish out the day. Luana will be demonstrating in graphite, conte, charcoal, and chalk on paper. Time will be taken for critique of drawings and artwork begun outside the class. Experienced artists.
Instructor: Luana Luconi Winner
Tuition and Materials: $ 185 ($170 members/teachers)

PAINTING PERSONALITIES
Saturday, August 16 & Sunday, August 17, 10am-5pm

This class is for people who love people! It is not designed for structured portrait paintings of CEOs or corporate styled portraits. We are going after characteristics and personalities! Have you ever wished you could paint the gangly, freckled-faced teen; the cowboy with the handlebar moustache; the baroness in the turn-of-the-century, ostrich-feathered hat; the fencing master? Think of the wonderful paintings from past eras - the clothes, the colorful attitudes, and the memorable characters. Luana will demonstrate several quick approaches in oil on canvas and in pastel. Students can choose to work in either media. Come for the fun of painting the personalities!
Instructor: Luana Luconi Winner
Tuition and Model fee: $225 ($205 members/teachers)
Some supplies will be provided; supply list will be provided upon registration for either oils or pastels.
