ART
IN A BOX
Collaborating Service Organization: Salvation Army
Instructor: Joey Howard
More than 25 participants at the Salvation Army along with instructor
Joey Howard explored the creative process and the use of traditional and
non-traditional methods and materials to create unique works of art. Experimentation
and invention was the main focus of this project. Using a variety of techniques
and media such as personal mementos, photographs, found objects, and objects
from nature, participants created individualized illuminated mixed media
wall sculptures.
Joey Howard is an artist and educator working in mixed
media/assemblage. He has taught art classes at Exploris Charter School,
and at the Contemporary Art Museum for various projects including "What's
in Store," an artist storefront project with middle school students. Howard's
work had been exhibited throughout the Triangle area and in New York City.
He was formally the owner of TRACE gallery. Howard holds a BFA in Studio
Art from Western Carolina University. Howard has taught for several years
in the Artspace Summer Arts Program, the Artspace Outreach Program and
created an art program for the Boys and Girls Club of Wake County and
