ARTSPACE SUMMER ARTS PROGRAM GENERAL INFORMATION

EARLY REGISTRATION for Artspace members begins February 3, 2010. If you are an Artspace member and would like to take advantage of early registration please call 919.821.2787 or print out the registration form. Registration for the general public begins March 5, 2010.

Welcome to the Artspace Summer Arts Program! This year marks our 21st summer of offering intensive-yet-fun, project-oriented classes for youths (rising 3rd - 10th graders), college prep classes (rising 9th-12th graders), and workshops for adults (age 16 and up). The Summer Arts Program provides a unique opportunity for students to work directly with professional artists and gain quality experience through hands-on activities.

You will discover some exciting *New Classes* such as Plein Air, along with long-time favorites such as Basic Anatomy and Figure Drawing with Paris Alexander and Painting Personalities with Luana Luconi Winner. In addition, you will find some College Prep classes as well as Adult classes beginning at age 16.

This summer, Artspace is proud to present Oscar Gillespie as our 2010 Summer Artist-In-Residence. For the month of July, he will be welcoming visitors to his studio, Artspace’s Gallery One, while he focuses on engraving techniques. Oscar will be creating new works for his Artspace exhibition that will open in conjunction with the August 6th First Friday Gallery Walk. More information about Oscar and the classes he will be teaching this summer can be found under youth & adult classes.

Lastly, I want to remind you about the importance of The Summer Arts Program Scholarship Fund. Based upon recommendations of area teachers, each year fifty youths receive scholarships to fully cover the expenses of attending Artspace for a full-day week-long program.I encourage you to consider a contribution of any denomination to the Scholoarhsip Fund. Every single penny of your tax-deductible contribution will directly enrich the lives of talented youths who would otherwise be unable to attend our program.

Lia Newman
Director of Programs & Exhibitions

*Artspace is fully handicap accessible to persons with disabilities. Needs will be accommodated upon request.

Week-long sessions for youths begin June 14 and continue through August 14, 2010.

Many thanks to our sponsors, without which this program would not be possible:

  • Jerry's Artarama
  • Askew Taylor, supplies
  • Graham McKinney, graphic design
  • Carolina Parent, advertising
